Bukit Panjang Light Rail Transit (BPLRT)

The Bukit Panjang Light Rail Transit (BPLRT) is a driverless and fully-automated light rail line that serves residential estates in Choa Chu Kang and Bukit Panjang. It opened on 6 November 1999 and covers a distance of 7.8 kilometers. The line uses APM 100 rubber-tyred automated people movers and guideway technology provided by Alstom. Unlike other train lines in Singapore, the Bukit Panjang LRT uses Service Letters to indicate its direction of travel and destination because of its unique, non-linear shape.

Trains from Choa Chu Kang split directions at Bukit Panjang station, traveling in either a clockwise or anti-clockwise loop before returning to Bukit Panjang station. The Bukit Panjang LRT was created to extend the MRT network closer to residents in Choa Chu Kang and Bukit Panjang, connecting to the North South Line and Downtown Lines. It also complements existing trunk and feeder bus services in the two estates.
